The world is evolving. It becomes essential to acquire technological skills so as to keep up with the advancement in various fields. It is in this light that the Faculty of Arts Student Representative Council, Unilorin, held a tech summit, the first of its kind, on July 13, 2023, at the faculty’s lecture Hall. The summit, tagged ‘Embracing the Digital Age’, brought together thriving tech individuals and tech enthusiasts from the faculty who are aspiring to break into and achieve in the tech world. Miss. Taofeeeqoh Bello, a student and products designer; Mr. Daniel Pelumi, a student software developer; Mr. Tomori Uriel, Head of Marketing at Flat Match Canada; Mr. Kehinde Kamardeen, CEO of Malhub, among other thriving tech individuals, were invited to educate the students on how to leverage the technological resources available and how to break into the tech world.
Some ways in which students in tech can balance their academics with tech was shared by keynote speaker, Tomori Uriel (Head of marketing, FlatMatch Canada). They include; good time planning and management, passion, group studying, personal discovery, consistency, getting an AI assistant, etc. He also shared the 4Cs of skills needed in tech. He encouraged students to be; Curious, Creative, Consistent and Critical. He also advised that Art students can also monetize tech through content writing, paid ads, being a Search Engine Marketer, etc.
During the panel session, which was constituted by Miss.Islamia, Mr. Daniel, Mr. Taofeeqoh, and Mr. Okanlawon, one of the participants asked how to know which tech program to fit into because picking one seems overwhelming. The participant was advised to try out all the tech programs that attracted her because only doing that would allow her to know where her abilities lie and which one to stick with.
