Elections were held for executive and legislative positions within the Faculty of Arts, both at the faculty and departmental levels. On Saturday, August 19, 2023, the electoral process unfolded smoothly, commencing at 8:34 AM and concluding precisely at 2:10 PM. Among the notable outcomes, Adeleke Adebayo, a student from the Department of Performing Arts, emerged as the 32nd President of the Faculty, running unopposed.
The contested position of the Vice President, where “Lawal Adeola Mariam” from the Department of History and International Studies triumphed over her rival “Osofowora Esther Gbemisola” from the Department of Linguistics. Lawal secured victory with 859 votes, surpassing Osofowora’s 763 votes. The total vote count reached 1,685, while 63 votes were considered void.
Key aspirants, including Ayodele Samuel, Michael Patricia Oluwatomiwa, Lawal Adeola Mariam, and Adeleke Adebayo, vying for the positions of Sports Director, General Secretary, Vice President, and President respectively, lauded the election process. They attested that the proceedings were transparent, equitable, and devoid of the conflicts witnessed in previous Faculty elections. Credit was extended to the members of the Faculty of Arts Independent Students’ Electoral Committee (FAISEC) for the successful conduct of the elections.
Omotayo Odufejo, a 300-level student of the Department of Linguistics, remarked, “I believe the process has been fair so far with no infiltration among electorates, and I’m happy about the entire process.”
“I’m indeed very happy and grateful that it is during my tenure that an election at the Faculty recorded zero problem or quarrel. The entire exercise was credible,” Muhammad Abdulrasaq Akanni (Retrol), the incumbent President of the Faculty, added.
Several faculty members, including Dr. Ajetunmobi, Dr. Solomon, Dr. Olorunibe, and Mr. Atteh, were present during the election proceedings.
