University of Ilorin — After the just concluded 37th and 38th convocation ceremonies, recent graduates kickstarted the last lap of their final clearance in preparation for NYSC and collection of certificates.
The final clearance processes started last week with approval from faculty accountants and the Students’ Affairs Unit.
Some students have had their forms signed but they think the process could be easier.
Speaking with Hannah, a graduate of the Faculty of Arts, the process could have been rather virtual. “Virtual clearance is more ideal than physical clearance,” she said.
“Numbers given (sic) or queues must be followed if the University is still adamant on physical clearance. Bribery and the use of connection shouldn’t continue as a means to speed up a student’s clearance because all students are equal and should be treated as such in all ways even during final clearance”
Another graduate, Itunuoluwa from the faculty of Management Sciences expressed her utter disappointment at the state of things at the students affairs unit. “I got here as early as 7:15 am hoping to conclude my final clearance by 12 pm max but to my greatest surprise, I had breakfast and lunch at the same spot and I got my clearance form returned to me a few minutes past 6 pm.”
These comments among others reveal the frustration of students who have been forced to wait while others are attended to. This reporter spoke to other sources who admitted that the set-up is disorganised causing only a few of them to be attended to while others got by through scheming.
“I think having more hands on deck with a high level of transparency will go a long way,” Emmanuel, a graduate of the faculty of Communication Sciences, told UCJ UNILORIN.
