The Department of Optometry and Visual Sciences held the 3rd Oath-Taking and Induction Ceremony on Monday, 19th December 2023. This makes it three consecutive times the department inducted doctors this year. The first induction was held on 17th May and the second, on 10th August, 2023.
Dignitaries not excluding professional bodies, the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of various faculties were present.
The Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences in her opening speech commended the efforts of past leaders who have invested time to ensure the program was a success in the university. Addressing the doctors, she encouraged them to use their skills effectively.
The Vice-Chancellor represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Management Board also gave his keynote address to the students and advised that they collaborate with people in their field to provide sufficient eye care in the community.
The President of the Optometric Association of Nigeria appreciated the parents and commended them for their efforts.
Awards were presented to the Best Graduating Student in Clinical Optometry, Doctor Akande Abiodun Peter; Award in Service of the Nigerian Optometric Student Association, Doctor Alfanla Wuraola; Award of Excellence in Service, Doctor Olabanji Risqat; Best Graduating Student in Optometric Practice Management, Doctor Olabanji Risqat; Best Graduating Female student in Community Optometry, Doctor Rosheed Olabisi Balqis; and Overall Best Graduating student in 2021/2022, Doctor Akande Peters.
