On Monday, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), a West African non-profit organisation, commenced a 4-day training workshop for University of Ilorin Students on the ethics of professional journalism.
The Deputy Director of the CJID, Busola Ajibola, in her opening remark, enjoined the privileged participants to take an intense interest in the learning processes to expose them to the core duty of journalism. She also noted that CJID was a platform that had provided golden opportunities for campus reporters highlighting the numerous segments in the organisation to equip the young generation and make them better reporters.
Mr. Kemi Busari, Editor of Dubawa and Kabiru Adejumo, an Editor of Southern Operations at HumAngle, among other facilitators would enlighten students on various topics ranging from investigative journalism, news writing and storytelling among a host of others.
Dr. K.K Kadiri, the Head of the Mass Communication Department at the University of Ilorin enjoined the participants to be keen on skills as it will enable them to demonstrate capacity in the labour market after graduation. “Your network is your net worth. This is a rare privilege for you as undergraduates. You are to grab the opportunities,” she said.
She also extended gratitude to the CJID and its officials for their decision to execute their 42nd Campus Reporters training at the university. Through its Campus Reporter project, the non-profit organisation has conducted several trainings for different universities in the country.
